Mezo’s Ready-to-Drink 100% Mezcal Cocktails Now Available in 38 Whole Foods Market Stores Across Southern California

Mezo Beverages today announced that its premium, lightly-carbonated ready-to-drink cocktails — Mezo Mezoritas — are now available in 38 Whole Foods Market locations throughout Southern California. Spanning from Oxnard to San Diego, the rollout marks the brand’s largest retail expansion to date and a significant step in bringing artisanal mezcal cocktails to the fast-growing ready-to-drink cocktails category.

Crafted with 100% Agave Espadín mezcal and all-natural, Mexico-inspired ingredients, Mezoritas arrive in two flavors — Pineapple and Guava, with Ginger, and Passionfruit Paloma coming later this year. At 6.5% ABV in 12-oz cans, the cocktails are lightly effervescent and chef balanced, with a subtle smoky complexity and a touch of agave nectar that distinguishes them from sugary seltzers and malt-based alternatives.

“Our customers look to us to identify up-and-coming brands that are both flavorful and innovative, while still meeting our quality ingredient standards. The craftsmanship behind the brand and the founders’ direct partnership with the mezcaleros in Oaxaca make Mezo the kind of ready-to-drink brand we’re proud to bring to our customers,” said Samantha Fletcher, Senior Category Merchant, Whole Foods Market.

A Story Rooted in Oaxaca, Crafted on the California Coast

Mezo was founded by San Diego-based lifelong friends Troy Brajkovich, a filmmaker, and Spencer Johnston, an executive chef, whose travels through Oaxaca sparked a mission to bring small-village mezcal to modern drinkers. Every can begins with artisanal Agave Espadín handcrafted by fifth-generation maestro mezcaleros Oscar and Octavio Martinez in San Dionisio Ocotepec — roasted in earthen ovens over coals and volcanic rock, fermented with wild yeasts, and distilled in traditional copper stills. The mezcaleros are also co-owners of the brand.

Once the 100-proof mezcal reaches California, it’s blended with organic California lime, tropical fruit juices, aromatic botanicals, and a light touch of agave nectar, for a beverage closer to a freshly made Oaxacan cocktail than a hard seltzer.

“From the agave fields of Oaxaca to the California coast, our goal is to produce RTD mezcal cocktails the right way,” said Troy Brajkovich, CEO and co-founder of Mezo Beverages. “Launching into Whole Foods Market stores across Southern California means a lot because I believe their shoppers care about where things come from and how they’re made. That’s what Mezo is all about.”
